The school Cedric first attended was called Ballou high,it was considered as a school with nothing but violence and it was often the poor people who attended the school. The author describes the school as “A crime infested ward” the language technique the author used was hyperbole, this is an exaggeration. This quote suggests the school has a high rate of crime and violence occurring at  Ballou high. The word infested suggests that the crime and violence is like a virus which runs among the students who attend Ballou high.An infestation is an unwanted commodity and disliked by all.

The author uses a quote which describes Cedric’s individual problems “The arduous odyssey of Cedric. The language technique the author used was a metaphor. The quote is talking about the long journey Cedric is pursuing. We can see this were it says the arduous odyssey, the word arduous suggests that Cedric needs to have persistence and endurance during his long hard journey to achieve his goal at M.I.T.The other part of the quote “odyssey” was taken from a old Greek myth which suggests that he has to  pursue this alone. The previous quote ” But we’re I start from is far behind were some other kids are,I have to run twice the distance to catch up” talks about Cedric’s difficulties in his education due to the crime and bullying at Ballou High. In this quote, however, we see that the difficulties are different as they are related to Cedric’s individual issues. For example the quote ” But we’re I start from is far behind were some other kids are,I have to run twice the distance to catch up” the quote is talking about how behind Cedric’s is compared to all the other students who attend ballou high,it also links back to the question because it is talking about Cedric’s struggle at ballou high the school described as “A crime infested ward” which he attended before m.i.t is talks about how far he is to catch up in part two.

In part two the author uses the quote “But we’re I start from is far behind were some other kids are,I have to run twice the distance to catch up”. ‘The language technique the author used was a metaphor. The quote links us back to when Cedric attended Ballou high, the reason for this is because Cedric is saying there is a big difference between him and the other students because they were all educated the right way and Cedric was at a school filled with violence and crime which lead to him being behind all the other students. He says this by saying “But we’re I start from is far behind were some other kids are,I have to run twice the distance to catch up”.In other words he is trying to say he has to endure and shoulder a heavy burden and work much harder to achieve the same levels as his peers who have surpassed him. The previous quote “A crime infested ward” talks about Cedric’s difficulties in his education due to the crime and bullying at Ballou High. this quote it is suggesting the difficulties  the environment in this case the school were as the other quote is talking about his difficulties in his education.

The author used personification to describe Cedric’s difficulties the quote was “failure is persuasive even seductive”.This suggests that the school holds a high rate of failure because the amount of crime within the school and its persuading Cedric to fail. The quote is suggesting that Cedric is desperately trying to not fail in his education and has decided to home educate him self and take his education serious in order for him to for fill his dream his so called goal to get a good job attend m.i.t and not fail his education.

In conclusion the author Ron Suskind uses a diverse amount of language techniques such as metaphors, hyperbole and personification, are a vital essence within his articles or story’s. This is because it makes the reader want to read on,this allows us to know how Cedric is feeling the issues or problems he faces at school.
